Rwoth (Iquis: Rwos) is the Bzhao homeworld.
History
Artashian subjugation (2301-2514)
The Bzhao homeworld was subjugated by the Star Republic of Artashia in 2301, and the puppet Dominion of Rwoth was created in 2305. The cultural and technological shock experienced by the Bzhao were catastrophic, as they were propelled from a newly industrialized society into being a part of a spacefaring civilization in under four years.
The Dominion reorganized Bzhao society into a caste system, where a significant chunk of its population was relegated as slave labour for the benefit of Artashia.
| Rseeng Mkhor name | Caste (Artashian name) | Function |
|---|---|---|
| thoddogol (group); thod (individual) | labasoatahas (group); labasoataha (individual) | administrative; essentially fills the leadership positions in the puppet government. |
| sozhdogol (group); sozh (individual) | fēlbtahas (group); fēlbtaha (individual) | managerial; overseers the slave population and services the top caste |
| lomdogol (group); lom (individual) | okis (group); oki (individual) | commoner class; may work for pay |
| ibichdogol (group); ibich (individual) | glaiks (group); glaik (individual) | slave class; forced to work without pay |
Independence and Recovery (2514-2525)
Wthaa Shint Kha'em led a planet-wide revolution against the Dominion Government and the parallel Artashian occupation government led by Governor Bakiltbarun.
More than two hundred years of Artashian dominion has eroded much of the pre-occupation culture of Rwoth. Shortly after independence, Bzhao society experienced a period of cultural renaissance, despite enduring human customs (such as handshaking, clapping, marriage, etc.), vocabulary, science, and religion.
Societal issues
Ikezhd
Even though registration within the caste system was randomized, Bzhao society remains affected by the artificial divisions etched into their world by Artashian colonization.
To this day, many Bzhao who had ibich ancestors feel the need to hide their lineage from society, as they report experiencing ikezhd, a form of discrimination based on caste ancestry in employment, marriage, and other areas in daily life. Despite ikezhd being considered unconstitutional, many Bzhao-majority businesses may practice illegal background investigations in prospective applicants to trace their ancestry.
Conversely, many thod families were targeted by revolutionaries in the decades following the Vermillion Revolution. Their descendants frequently hide their thod ancestry in fear of being seen to be collaborators. Nowadays, this phenomenon has decreased, as the pain of occupation has been mostly forgotten after centuries of reconciliation with Artashia under the Coalition of Allied Star Systems.
Despite ikezhd, many prominent Bzhao politicians, businesspeople, musicians, and artists have publicly shared their ibich ancestry, and enjoy mainstream acceptance.
