The earliest ancestor of Iquis is reconstructed to be the Earth language [[Proto-Icnotic A]], its endonym attested as ''ikofois'' and romanized as ''Icophois''. By the 3rd century AAI, Proto-Icnotic A began to display signs of change, morphing fully into Old Iquis by the turn of the millennium.
Old Iquis, spoken mainly on the worlds of Incognita V and Heva, is the earliest well-attested stage of the Iquis language, in which a large of amount of literature was published. Old Iquis continues to be influential in the development of the modern Iquis language, as a large amount of specialist vocabulary are derived from Old Iquis.

History
